Wilder Research conducts a homelessness study to examine the impact on Minnesotans.
Wilder found that over 10,000 people on a given night did not have a place to sleep. From their interviews, Wilder Research also found additional significant challenges such as substance use disorder, exploitation, and violence. What was found is that Minnesota lacks the shelter and housing capacity to support everybody. Also, the percentage of homeless people over the age of 55 rose by 7% from their last study. The bottom line is that there is not enough affordable housing for Minnesotans. Almost half of the respondants cited lack of affordable housing as a top problem, and about a third cited credit probems.
